Rigore e Psiche

Comunicato

From 2 to 14 February 2024, iKonica Art Gallery is pleased to present the exhibition “Rigore e Psiche”.

Two authors, Piero Campanini and Stefano Paulon invite us, through very different languages, on a journey that is not only visual but also introspective, using their respective languages as tools of investigation. Over the years, Piero Campanini has abandoned painting in its traditional sense, which involves the use of canvases, colours, spatulas and brushes, to move ever closer to the techniques of Digital Painting which today represent the totality of his production.
Stefano Paulon instead explains his narrative through the material. He mainly uses wood and cardboard on whose surfaces he then intervenes with acrylic-based cement finishes which he uses to give life to geometric shapes usually proposed in installation mode or, as on this occasion, inserted within the limits of paintings/containers that become a view onto his artistic world.

Marta Lock, international art critic who will present the exhibition, says of them:
"The singular effect of the exhibition is that one allows itself to be influenced by the other, Campanini emphasizing the importance of geometricity, a metaphor of logic understood as a cage but also as an essential container in which to take refuge when it becomes impossible to manage the 'emotionality, and Paulon welcoming instability as an essential part of a life that is too changeable and unexpected to be governed solely and exclusively by the laws of rigor. The interaction between the two different styles and the two personal interpretations is suggestive, it seems to be dominated by a silence which in proximity becomes an echo, as if the executive intention of one rebounded towards the other, generating an amplification of the expressed concept which consequently envelops the observer, precipitating him into a middle ground between insecurity and awareness of the possibility of drawing to emotion or reason, thus discovering how necessary both are to continue to stand”.

The works of both artists have the same measurements and are proposed in pairs so as to create a rhythmic narrative, a continuous dialogue between thought and translation of the same according to the techniques and feelings of each of them.
Apparently so far away but perhaps much closer than we can imagine.
